About this tour
When Ben from our team booked this private boat trip out of Hvar, we got the run of the southern coastline and Pakleni Islands in one hit. The captain—a local who actually knows where things are—steers you past dramatic red rock formations, into emerald lagoons, and past old village settlements that most day-trippers miss. The boat holds a maximum of 10, so it stays intimate. Eight hours is the full stretch, though you can dial it back to four if you've got limited time. It's the kind of tour that works because there's no script—you tell the skipper what appeals and the day adjusts around it.
Highlights
- Red rocks formation: genuinely striking geological feature, not just a photo op
- Dubovica beach's turquoise shallows ideal for a proper swim and snorkel
- Green lagoon's brackish water and enclosed vibe unlike anywhere else nearby
- Palmizana beach on Pakleni Islands: white sand, calm, refreshingly less crowded
- Captain's local knowledge made the difference—knew which spots to hit at right times
- Snorkelling gear supplied, so no need to hire or lug your own
- Customisable itinerary means you're not locked into a set schedule
What to expect
You'll meet at a designated point in Hvar town and head out by 09:30. The boat takes a steady pace along the red rock cliffs—the captain points out geology and history without overselling it. First stop is usually Dubovica, where the water's clear enough to see the seabed and the beach is manageable for getting in and out. You'll loop round toward the green lagoon next, which is brackish and oddly soothing. The afternoon swings toward Pakleni Islands, hitting Palmizana and the Zdrilca and Mlini lagoons. Ben reckoned the pacing felt natural—time to swim without feeling rushed, but enough movement to keep it interesting. The boat's sturdy and the captain knows how to read the sea.
Good to know
This beats a packed group boat by miles—having a private vessel means you stop when you want, stay longer at spots that grab you, and skip the ones that don't. Snorkelling kit's on board. The coastline genuinely is as scenic as advertised, and the red rocks and lagoons are proper standouts. Works for mixed fitness levels as long as you're reasonably mobile and comfortable on water.
Lunch isn't included—bring your own or budget for a cafe stop. It's a full day on the water, so sun protection and seasickness medication (if you're prone) are essential. The boat moves between spots, so it's not ideal if you want to plant yourself on one beach all day. Not suitable if you're pregnant or have spinal/cardiovascular concerns. Gratuities aren't included but a tip for the captain is standard practice. Peak season (July–August) books fast.
Maximum 10 people keeps groups small. Bring water (though bottled water's provided), snacks, hat, reef-safe sunscreen, and a light layer for wind. Port pickup and drop-off included.
